Uniform Care
Cleaning & Care of the Marching Band Uniform
Uniform Care Do’s:
- Use only non-chlorine household laundry detergent and cool/cold water
- Avoid washing bib pants and jackets together! Never wash in hot water.
- Machine wash on the gentle/permanent press cycle, but do not overload machine.
- If a stain does occur, you may use "Spray and Wash" and other non-chlorine stain removers when washing.
- Good idea to use a color catcher dye trapping sheet
- Bib Pants only can be placed in the dryer – on cool/permanent press setting.
- Remove garments immediately from the dryer and place on a hanger immediately.
- Touch up pressing on pants may be desired occasionally.
- Be sure to dry garments completely after each use before storing.
- Make certain the hook side of Velcro is not exposed when laundering uniforms to avoid “picking” of the fabric. If washing the gauntlets, hook the pieces together evenly so the hook side is not exposed.
Uniform Care Don’ts:
- Do not dry clean your uniform. The manufacturer advises against dry cleaning because the chemicals can negatively affect the fabric and color.
- Do not use liquid fabric softener on the uniform! A softener sheet may be used in the dryer, however, only use one sheet per dry load.
- Do not use a detergent with bleach.
- Do not machine dry the jacket. It will alter its appearance of the mylar in the design.
Uniforms will be sent home to be cleaned a few times during Marching Band Season – or to allow the uniform to dry if at a rainy event.
